From Purpose To Impact
I read an interesting post from the Harvard Business Review Management Tip of the Day called Don’t Let Today’s Goals Get in the Way of Your Future Goals.
... This course is a good complement to Career Management ! Peter Bregman, was talking about individual’s career goals that fit very well to get ahead in life and your career you have
to spend some time working on it, even to the detriment of your current
responsibilities. He says:
“You need to spend time on these things even when there are more pressing things to do, and even when there is no apparent return on your efforts. Sometimes you need to be irresponsible with your current tasks in order to make real progress on your future self.”
You need to do the same thing when you are working on the future of
work in your company. You MUST make the time in your weekly schedule to
sit and read and ponder how things may develop. Then take the time to
plan possible futures and how you may respond to those futures.
The good news is, that unlike Bregman’s suggestion which takes away
from you current job my suggestion is actually making you better in your
job.
